So, some low level employee responsible for maintaining the CDC website, reworded THEIR own definition of a vaccine to reduce confusion...and this guy thinks everywhere the definition of vaccine written or determined by experimentation was magically rewritten globally covering every present and historical documentation of the definition. I just don't see how that's likely. Also, if he wants to know if vaccines have ever prevented infection, there are plenty of studies on that and they all pretty much say no. Now if he can find legitimate research clearly showing that contrary to the CDC that vaccines do indeed prevent infection regularly, then I would love to read that paper.

A good way to convince people that vaccines do not generally prevent infection but DO prevent severe disease and this fact about infection/severe disease does NOT represent a CHANGE in the Definition is to explain that polio vaccines do not prevent polio virus infection but DO prevent paralysis and severe disease AND this fact has been known for about 70 years. Polio is probably the most well known, oldest example, but virtually nobody in the general public knows that polio vaccines and COVID vaccines are extremely similar with regard to infection/severe disease protection. It is a bit weird how people put so much faith in the "dictionary definition". For example.... Open a dictionary. Words have MANY definitions, some words over 100 different definitions. One of the web based Webster definitions of the word Vaccine is : a preparation or immunotherapy that is used to stimulate the body's immune response against noninfectious substances, agents, or diseases.....WAIT WHAT??? NONINFECTIOUS substances??? Sorry, but THATS the definition I choose to believe in. ALL you people talking about preventing infection from NONINFETIOUS SUBSTANCES must therefore be crazy....Do you see the problem??? The point is these people don't actually even know how to use a dictionary or know how definitions are even used.....AND that's a fundamental problem of ...well, basic literacy..

I find this absolutely chilling. Forces are at work promoting this "post truth" agenda. Science and medicine has known for decades how different vaccines work in conjunction with the immune system. But, for some reason, especially since 2014, there seems to be a concerted push to undercut reality. We must stand up for real science, and not allow the lunatics to take over the asylum.

One thing the anti-vaxxers think they have is "common sense." They will tell you that their friends are becoming ill (or worse) because of the vaccine, famouse young athletes are getting heart issues, etc, and it's easy to see if you just open your eyes. The problem is that they consider their perceptions to be infallible...they really don't consider the possibility that their minds may be subtly biased or playing tricks, and that statistics are needed to sort these things out. So...a simple awareness of the fallibility of the human mind is a big step away from conspiratorial silliness.

God, I've forgotten how often I've caught these idiots with the changed definition lie. They always point to the CDC (I think) web page and how it changed how it described vaccines had changed. "The CDC web page is not a dictionary and it's not the arbiter of how words are used. That would be a dictionary. Can you find ANY examples of ANY dictionaries changing their definition of vaccine?" Of course they can't. "Go to the library and find an actual printed dictionary and look up the definition. I'll save you time. It's essentially the same definition as we see in any of the on-line dictionaries today." I wish I could sell them supplements.

Over the past 3 years I've had two major open surgeries with about 15x follow up appointments, multiple dental cleanings/exams, an endoscopy, two ER visits, several physical therapy sessions, etc where I met with no less than 65 different med staffers. (All of these injuries/issues have nothing to do with "covid" and are from years prior) Not one has suggested that I get jabbed or asked "How are you doing so well with zero covid vaccines!?" I hate these cllips. It reeks of midwit IQ. Anyone with half a brain can look up any online dictionary in the waybay machine to see that YES, THE DEFINTIONS HAVE CHANGED. As very very many definitions do over time.... It is competely normal for words to update their definitions as their usage changes. That's nothing new. Dr. Wilson is actually just flat out wrong to pretend that the words haven't changed in useage over time. They obviously have. What matters is what changed and why? - which the clip cuts off before any real discussion on that issue occurs. I don't suspect Alex would have been able to argue the point he was trying to make, but this clip is terrible - It just shows that Dr Wilson again knows nothing about how to actually have an honest debate. You clearly explained what vaccines are supposed to do ( prevention of hospitalizations and death ) and what is not expected ( prevention of infection ) but can be an icing on the cake . In the first grade (which for me was 2001) part of our educational activities (I hesitate to call them 'studies' at that early age) included learning the basic organs of the body (heart, lungs, brain, etc.), and being able to (incredibly roughly) draw them on layered transparent sheets overlaying a doodle of a human body. This activity had filled me with enough curiosity that at my next doctor's appointment... where I happened to be getting my yearly flu vaccine... I... an 8 year old... asked how the shot worked. My doctor told me simply: "The vaccine contains a dead version of the flu". When I wrinkled my nose, he added: "Since it's already dead, it can't hurt you - but it shows your body what it looks like so that when you do get infected, it knows how to fight it". I repeat... I was given this child-simplified description of vaccine technology... in 2001. Nearly two decades before he claims they "changed the definition". B.S.

Besides making scientific literature understandable to the layman is important as well as combating the false narratives of an uncertain future spouted by reactionaries and fascists who just want absolute control and authority over us, and to make us ignorant about the truth of: climate change, democracy, scientific literature and the need for citizens to read above a high school level of literature. We do not need to fear the truth when it is on our side, but we challenge those who spout politics of fear and hubris coming from the reactionaries whose ideals in the 21st Century are incompatible with newer generations of folks. All support and praise for the work Doctor Wilson puts out there for non specialists in the field of natural sciences and literature.
